i was there last night too, Casey, heard the boos and chanting, and didn't like it either, as usual. although my policy has long been simply to not join in, i've been trying lately to counter it with positive chants about my team instead. it's not working so far, but i'll still keep trying.
while they shout 'yankees suck!'
i shout 'lets go mets!'
while they should 'STER-ROIDS'
i shout 'lets go mets!'
well, it works a little, like on the 5 people sitting right near me, but it's a start, right?
so although my attempts to teach good sportsmanship at the ballpark are admittedly futile, i wonder if there IS something that can be done, say if there were an official request of the fans, from someone they respect, like maybe willie randolph, or omar minaya, or someone similarly admired from the team, maybe they'd behave? or maybe a kind-of psa campaign, sponsored by the various baseball entities, to encourage appropriate behavior? Maybe signs like 'Keep it For the Kids' and 'respect the game' or similar?
poor sportsmanship is bad for everyone, and maybe it's time to teach everyone to treat the game with the respect that it deserves.
and furthermore, do you think that maybe without showing official disapproval of poor sportsmanship, there is some kind of unspoken approval of such behavior?
and by the way, i also think you are quite a hottie.
let's go mets!
