Sure we've been losing games, but that doesn't mean we aren't freakin' awesome, cuz we so are!
The Sports Illustrated article, "The Story of O," is terrific. I had heard that our Mr. Minaya had come from humble beginnings, or some such, but had not heard anything in detail until now. His family life and background are fascinating and truly inspirational. That his mother found a way to buy land, build a house on it, and from it ran a school for poor children and cripples, plus a soup kitchen for the homeless and poor in their native Dominican Republic, and that his father basically had to leave the country rather than be hunted down and shot for his political beliefs all tell of an upbringing with convicted, motivated people in his life. All of which begins to explain how he's come to be so driven and seemingly idealistic, and through all of that, so successful in his work. It's a great story, I recommend checking it out. And if I had the techno-savvy to give up a link to it I would, but you'll have to find it yourselves. Sorry about that, working on it.
And there you have it, Willie Randolph :sniffle: part of the coaching staff of the NL All-Star Team :sniffle: I'm kvelling! I know the voting is always uneven and the right guys often don't end up in the game, but nevertheless I always get excited about the All-Star game. And McCovey Cove is such a great place for it, I'm totally revved up for this game, as silly as it may be. Thinking about reserving a good table at ESPN Zone for it, even. Wheee!
Off days are only good because they really make me appreciate game days even more. Like today...
New series starts tonight, Glavine is pitching, and everyone should be very, very hungry for some wins. Let's go Mets!
