The planets sure were lined up nicely last night, I tell ya!  And after I did everything possible to screw things up, it somehow turned out to be one of my very most fun trips to Shea so far this year.  Go figure!

Air-head Maneuver of the Day:  Forget that I'm going to the game and leave my ticket at home.  Yeah, nice, right?  So after bragging all last week about how I'd be at the game last night, I forget all about it and spend the AM rush planning out how I'll do the laundry, give myself a pedicure and do some yoga after work.  I got to work all happy with myself and then realize that there is a game tonight, a game that I have a #$%& ticket for, and of course then realize that said ticket is now languishing in a desk drawer out in Bay Ridge.  Dumbass!  I think it over for a bit and decide to just buy a new ticket on-line, no sweat, ok, done.

Damage Caused by Air-head Maneuver, part 1:  Wore a sexy, red dress to work, not realizing I'd be going to the game afterwards and have to spend the whole night at Shea all hooched up in this aformentioned sexy, red dress.  Marginally inappropriate for work, but quite a bit more inappropriate than that for the ball park.  No sweater, no Mets blanket, nothing.  And I'm not about to go buy a whole new get-up for this one stupid game (tuition time is right around the corner, yano!)  So I get to be THAT girl at the ballpark, clearly looking for a new baby-daddy or whatever.  Bleh.

Damage Caused by Air-head Maneuver, part 2:  No radio walkman to listen to the game on the FAN.  This.  Sucks.  This sucks even on a good day, but particularly on a day when I'm at the ballpark dressed like I was.  And I'm planning to keep score, but expect that this will be next to impossible without Howie Rose and Tom McCarthy to help me suss out whatall is going on down there.  This is more of a bummer than I suppose it should be, but I REALLY love having the FAN on during a game, so much so that I briefly considered bagging the whole plan over it, rather than buy YET ANOTHER radio to bring along after forgetting to bring one of the 6 I already have at home.  I decide that I'm just going to have to muddle through, and who knows, maybe it'll be fun without it.

Damage Caused by Air-head Maneuver, part 3:  No Mets cap.  What'll I do if we need a rally, huh?  Where would we be now if nobody remembered to bring their Rally caps, huh??  Nice going, "FAN"... real nice.  There's no "I forgot my cap at home" in "Team" yano!

So alright, it is what it is here, I'm going to the game totally overdressed with nothing but a printed out scorecard and a couple of pencils.  This'll be new, maybe it'll be great!  Let's see.

Well, it WAS great.  And not just because the team played great, with Maine giving up only 5 hits and 2 runs, with 7 strike-outs AND then hitting a 2-run homer, his first big league long-ball!!  Woohooo!  Plus a 2-run homer from Milledge (3 RBI for him all together), and 13 hits overall from the Mets, including 3 doubles, and an RBI each for Gotay, Green and Wright.

It was also great because there were all of these other girls that were REALLY hooched out, I mean, wow... what are you thinking, women??  (I bet there are some like that all the time but I guess I just never noticed before.  Well, it takes all kinds, yano.  Now, my dress has high slits up the sides, and really nice bateau neckline that I think is pretty sexy, but it's also a pretty elegant dress, I guess, so it didn't get me any of the negative attention I was worrying about.  And really, who cares about fancy dress girl, when there are a whole crew of hot-pants and midrif-top girls right over there??  Score!  I still had to spend the evening anchoring it down so that it wouldn't blow up in the wind, but that was no big deal.

Everyone behaved themselves, there were no drunken goons making trouble anywhere, the Pirates fans and everyone else poked good-natured fun at each other and everyone (well, I can only really speak for myself, but it sure seemed to be universal) had a real good time.  We even had some very successful wave action going on, to boot.  Yep, that was one good night at the ballpark, I tell ya...

I scored the whole game, all by myself with no radio or tv broadcast team to help me out, and guess what happened!  Go on, guess!  I got it all done just fine.  =)  And when I checked it later against the wrap-up on mlb.com I saw that I'd only made a couple of understandable mistakes in the process.  Pathetic and sad, yet true; I love scoring baseball games.  Hopefully it's just a phase I'm going through.  Really hoping...  But for now, yeah I'm a big, game-scoring dork.  :hangs head proudly in shame:  (wait, what?)

Random notes from the night:  John Maine starts his game and hits to old-school Metallica, right on!  (Seek and Destroy, if I'm not mistaken), Xavier Nady is still as super-hot as ever and still an offensive force to be reckoned with (my secret wish is that we get him back one day, let's all pray together for this, okay?), and the addition of express trains from the ball park after the game is increasing my quality of life in a big, big way.

Good times, lessons learned, and a nice win for the Mets.  And of course...

... Glavine tonight!  Let's go Mets!
