Nice quick first inning for Maine, that was a good sign, of course. And then Reyes hits a lead off double by running super hard right out of the box, another good sign! Milledge is just an RBI machine, and so of course hit Reyes in to put us on board in the first. Good for him, he looks serious and very, very good this season. Go get 'em, Kid!
Double for Castro, and lots of hitting for the Mets, 10 hits in only 5 innings, with 2 RBI each for Wright and Castro, and one for Milledge. Plus Maine had 5 strikeouts and was looking great. Gary and Keith think it's Maine's Home Run that's changed him to make him look so badass, but I know
better.. it's his finally being named MVAP of the week here at Blue Skies and Baseball last week. You're
welcome, everyone.
I only got to see this game after arriving home from Baltimore (road-trip perfection here, don't get me started!), but had watched the score on the away board at Camden Yards (!!!) and then got the MLB text messages about Castro's 2-run homer, and the final score following the rain delay. It made the trip to the Orioles game even more fun, and because the game was so short I had time to watch it once I got in. Good stuff, I tell ya.
I'm all revved up for Glavine's start on Tuesday, and had not realized that only 22 pitchers had reached 300 before (did I hear that right?). Wow.
I have Yankees tickets for Tuesday, but would almost rather watch the televised Mets game at a sports bar, or similar, than go to the live Yuckees game. Hmmm... And I have a spare Yankee ticket on top of it all, but last time this happened I literally couldn't give it away, had to go by myself and then give it to some random guy at the ballpark who didn't even say thank you. This time, either someone is coming with me, or I'm giving them both away and watching the Mets game instead. We'll see about this.
Very nice, if abbreviated, win today, and I am lovin' how Maine is looking these days. For his pitching, I mean. And also, of course... well, you know.
Let's go Mets!
