Yay, it's Pedro! Woohoo, wheeeeee!
And so, with that obligatory outburst out of the way, I would like to mention how great that game was... Great game!
I was at the Yankee game, but of course wasn't really paying much attention the the Bombers, as I was listening to the Mets game on the FAN. I did notice some great plays going down there in the Bronx, and I also noticed the Yankees losing by a wide margin, and of course I took a few minutes to note the searing hotness of Alex Rodriguez, but other that all of that, I was quite preoccupied with the beer (they sell Becks in the stands at Yuckee Stadium, which is nice), and my little radio, which of course is among my most cherished possessions of $10 or less.
Some clown up in the stands kept trying to start a "Gorge, Gorge, Gorge, Gorge" chant like the Jose, Jose, Jose, Jose chant, which I have learned comes from some soccer chant for some British player/team. That was kind of annoying, I must say. Why do that when you've got the perfectly good "Hip, Hip, Gorge!"? Yankee fans are dumb, I've always known that, but at least they've always been able to generate their own team chants. New lows for the Yuckee Fans, don't even know why I'm surprised. But in their defense, at least there weren't any fistfights, so there's a step in the right direction, eh?
I'll admit that when Pedro gave up 2 runs in the first I was worried, but of course I knew that with the offense hitting like they have been lately they would surely be able to come back from that, and boy did they. 16 hits for the Mets offense, 5 innings pitched for Pedro, giving up 5 hits and 2 runs, but throwing 4 strikeouts as well, and just all-around pitching really well! A homer and 2 doubles for Alou (!!!), homers also for Wright and Delgado, 3 hits each for Alou, Wright and Castillo... As we were hoping, the team looks to be firing on all cylinders now, and with Pedro back, and a 5-game lead back, we are looking good.
In other news, I just heard some caller on the FAN talking about David Wright for MVP, and the host agreeing that he could see it working out that way. That was a fun way to start a day.
Let's go Mets!
